Santa Rosans, REMBA folks, the time to act is now. Read on:
On May 20th, 2017, the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department revealed their *draft* Master Plan for the upcoming Kawana Springs Community Park. Those of you in attendance at that meeting noted the significant absence of any bicycle-related amenities in the *draft* plan! Never fear, the time to act is now, and with your help, Santa Rosa, we can encourage planners to do the right thing for the Kawana Springs neighborhood!
The good news is that Santa Rosa staff are STILL asking you for your feedback, and with just a few minutes of time, your voice can STILL be heard. The time to speak and act is now, however. The planning window is quickly closing, and soon we’ll have a park designed by those that spoke up!
How?: Follow this link to sign in and add your ideas to the facilitated discussion that City Staff have created for you. Please Log in. Please leave some comments.
What?: We here at REMBA strongly advocate for popular amenities such as a neighborhood pump track – similar to what REMBA installed for Santa Rosa at Northwest Community Park. The Kawana Springs neighborhood and Southeast Santa Rosa deserve a pump track, too! Hundreds of homes are nearby – as well as the gateway to Taylor Mountain Regional Park. We suggest that having a bicycle skills progression area would also be a marvelous amenity. Being adjacent to Taylor Mountain’s extensive current and planned trail network makes Kawana Springs uniquely *the* perfectly logical place for children and families to play and develop basic mountain bicycling skills before hitting the steeper and mixed terrain available in Taylor Mountain.
ASK: In your comments, please ask that City Staff work with an organization such as REMBA to design and build bicycle related amenities. We’d love to be part of the solution, and we’ll need your help along the way!
Here’s more, from the City, about the planning process and some of the dates that are quickly approaching. Again, the time to have your say, and have it actually influence the planning process it *right now*. Today.
Project: Kawana Springs Community Park
The City of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Department is working with GSM Landscape Architecture, Inc. and David J. Powers & Associates to develop a Master Plan for Kawana Springs Community Park. This is a continuation of the community park planning process that began in the summer of 2015. The Master Plan will provide a long-range vision to guide development of this 19.2-acre park located in southeast Santa Rosa at Kawana Terrace and Meda Avenue. David J. Powers has been providing ongoing environmental analysis of the park area and GSM is working on the draft design plan. Residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process to help determine the future of the park!
Public Input Process:
An in-person community meeting to review the draft plan, ask questions and provide input on the design was held on May 20th at Bennett Valley Senior Center (704 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa).
The draft plan is now online below in the “Discussion” for public viewing and input. The online public input forum for the plan will be open for two full weeks (through June 5th).
A second in-person community meeting will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 1-3pm at Bennett Valley Senior Center, and the updated plan will be presented for community members to provide feedback.
The plan shown at the June 24th meeting will then be placed online on this webpage (in “Discussion” below) the following Monday (June 26th) and an online public input forum for the plan will remain open for two weeks (through July 10th). Based on input received at that point, the Recreation & Parks Department will assess next steps.
